Sheena Campbell
Having worked for almost a decade in newspapers, I made the decision to go freelance in 2016. Since that time I have been working for a range of organisations including charities, colleges, non-profits and commerciall organisations.
Professional Info
As an NCTJ trained journalist, I have 100wpm shorthand, excellent legal knowledge and an understanding of the value of plain language. I have experience tutoring in both shorthand and health information topics.
Work Experience
Freelance writer and tutor
2016 - present
Since leaving newspapers, I have been freelance, putting my experience to use for a variety of clients.
Currently, I work for the Patient Information Forum (PIF) as a communications manager and tutor, as press officer for CPRE Sussex and on a freelance basis for a pharmaceutical communications agency. I also take on one-off projects.
In the past, I have produced special supplements for newspapers, native advertising copy for websites and business profiles. I worked on a freelance basis as a tutor at Brighton Journalist Works and as press officer for Spectrum Photographic for a number of years.
Content editor
2015 - 2016
As content editor for a group of local newspapers and websites I was responsible for the day-to-day running of a busy newsroom.
My duties included proof-reading, running major campaigns, writing, training junior reporters, dealing with reader queries and co-ordinating with advertising and newspaper sales departments.
Thanks to my knowledge of online tools and social media, in the final quarter of 2015 my main website had the biggest online growth of any newspaper in the Johnston Press group nationally.
Journalist
2008 - 2015
Having started on a local newspaper as a junior reporter in 2008, I went on to hold several different roles on newspapers across Sussex including chief reporter, website editor and deputy editor.
Education
University of Sheffield
I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2008 with a first-class BA hons in Journalism Studies. During this time I also passed my NCTJ professional qualifcation, achieved 100wpm shorthand and received the Sheffield Star prize for best print portfolio in my graduating year.
BHASVIC
I completed my A-levels at BHASVIC in Hove, achieving As in English Language and Literature, Psychology and History and Bs in Biology and Accounting.
